Massage Techniques
Swedish Massage
The basic style of massage therapy. Combines
ancient Egyptian, Greek, Roman and Chinese techniques with the current
knowledge of physiology. Uses long gliding strokes along with kneading and
beating.
Stone Massage
Stone massage involves the use of heated
stones of various size. The stones are strategically placed on the
body, relaxing the muscles. The muscles can then be easily massaged and
manipulated.
Aromatherapy Massage
Aromatherapy massage involves the use of
scents to help relax the body. It may involve the use of scented oils
massaged into the body or inhaled from a vaporizer. The scents help reduce
stress.
Sports Massage
Sports massages are designed to help athletes
heal quicker after exercise and injuries. It usually involves deep tissue
massage and will be tailored to the individual needs of the athlete.
Reflexology Massage
In reflexology massage the therapist will
stimulate the hands, feet or ears in order to heal other parts of the
body. This can relieve stress, increase blood flow and unblock nerve
pathways.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage is designed to break up
scar tissue in your muscles. Whenever you injure a muscle scar tissue can
form around the muscle. This can cause stiffness, cramps and constant
aches. The therapist will apply deep pressure to the area and will make
long slow strokes along the path of the muscle.
